When it appeared in 1965, Kodak's Instamatic 304 combined a selenium meter-controlled automatic aperture system with the new flash cube system. A control bar appearing in the viewfinder indicates insufficient light. This was one of the more sophisticated Instamatics.

The flash cube holder revolves a quarter turn after releasing the shutter release button. Two AAA batteries are needed to fire the flash. On the front side of the camera, below the "electric eye", is the cube ejector button which is protected against accidental pressing.

A close-up attachment and a cloud filter were available for the camera.
