Gitzo is a French company, founded in 1917. Its name comes from the founder's name Arsène Gitzhoven.
It produced Gilax cameras between the two world wars. After the war it made shutters and accessories (cable releases, delayed action mechanisms, flash connectors), and it currently (2006) manufactures tripods and tripod heads.
