Ben Folds
Ben Folds is an American musician and songwriter[1]. In the period 2003–2004 he released three solo EPs whose titles refer to photography:
- Speed Graphic (the iconic Graflex press camera—images of one appear on the album cover)
- Sunny-16 (referring to the rule of thumb for exposure estimation)
- Super D (likely referring to the 1963 Topcon Super D from Tōkyō Kōgaku)
Songs from these EP sessions were re-edited into the 2006 album Supersunnyspeedgraphic, the LP, which again uses the Graflex camera images on its cover.
Folds is a dedicated amateur photographer[2]. In a "Celebrity Hobbies" video interview[3], Folds talks about his appreciation for vintage film cameras. He praises his Leica camera, is shown with a Rolleiflex SL66, and demonstrates darkroom printing.
Ironically, some of his most widely-seen photographs were a series showing the 2010 flooding of Nashville, Tennessee taken with the camera of his Blackberry, and later posted on the National Geographic website[4]. Some of his film photography was showcased in a later gallery[5] on the same site.
