Beard
R.R. Beard Ltd is unrelated to Richard Beard, the British licensee of the Daguerrotype process.
R.R. Beard Ltd was a maker of cinematographic and photographic equipment in England. The company was founded in 1882 by Robert Royou Beard (1856-1932).[1] He was apprenticed to a company of brassworkers, whose products included magic lanterns. Beard devised a high-pressure regulator for oxygen cylinders, allowing improvements to gas-lit lanterns, and set up the company to make his regulators. The firm went on to make a range of other cinema-projection and lighting equipment, as well as photographic enlarging easels (masking frames).
Beard, now trading as Photon Beard after a merger with another lighting company, is still in business, making low-energy lighting equipment.
