William Edward Kilburn (1819-1891) was the favourite photographer of her Majesty the Queen Victoria of Britain. He had opened a studio at 222 Regent Street, London, on 9 February 1847. Six times a year the Queen let make Mr. Kilburn a new photograph of herself. Kilburn's brother Douglas worked as photographer in Australia. The correspondence between the brothers was an example how photography could advance even on the far continent, with help of specialistic news and advice from Europe, about improvements of the photographic process, and maybe about psychological tricks how to make people sitting still for exposure times of at least five seconds.
