The S1000pj is part of the Coolpix line of digital compact cameras announced by Nikon in 2009. As the model name might imply, this is the first digital camera that has an integrated projector. An updated version called Coolpix S1100pj was released in 2010.

The camera uses a 12.1 megapixel 1/2.3" CCD sensor. This produces images of 4000 x 3000 pixels. The lens is Zoom-Nikkor 5 to 25mm (28-140mm) 5x with f/3.9-5.8 aperture range. The focus distance is from 30cm to infinity with a macro close-up mode of 3cm. The back uses a 230,000 dot, 2.7 inch LCD screen. The built-in projector can display VGA resolution images from approx 13 cm (5 in) to 100 cm (40 in) at a projection distance of 26 cm (10 in) to 2 m (6 ft, 7 in). SD cards are used for media storage and there is 36MB of built-in storage. It is powered by a rechargeable battery that lasts approximately 220 shots. In projection mode the power lasts approximately one hour.
