Mars Shashin Kōgyō-sha (マース写真工業社) was a Japanese company based in Tokyo, Ebara in 1943.[1] It is listed in the "Kokusan shashinki no genjōchōsa" ("Inquiry into Japanese cameras") but the exact nature of its activity is unknown. It is perhaps related to the Baby Balnet camera and perhaps made the Lex shutter observed on an example of the Weha Six (marked Mars Tokyo at the top of the shutter plate).[2]

Notes

  1. Its address in 1943 was Tōkyō-to Ebara-ku Ebara 5–28 (東京都荏原区荏原5–28). Source: "Kokusan shashinki no genjōchōsa" ("Inquiry into Japanese cameras"), listing the Japanese camera production as of April 1943.
  2. Baby Balnet: For unknown reasons, Sugiyama attributes the camera to "Fuji Optical Co." in item 1032 and to "Mars Optical Works" and "Fuji Trading Co." in item 1278. Weha Six: Example picture in Sugiyama, item 1266.
