"Kyocera" is a composite word based on "Kyoto Ceramics."

Kyocera are also the manufacturers of Yashica and modern Contax cameras. In March of 2005 Kyocera anounced that it would be pulling out of the competive digital camera market. It was the first large Japanese manufacture to do so.
