Adding images to the wiki is as simple as adding the url for an image. However, you should be careful about two matters.

  1. The image you are linking to must either be in the public domain or must be copyright in such a way as to allow reproduction within Camerapedia. You must assume that any image is copyright in such a way as not to allow this unless it is accompanied by a clear statement contradicting this, e.g. that it is copyleft under a "Creative Commons" license.
  2. The image you are linking to must be hosted by a person who, or organization that, has explicitly consented to having bandwidth used in this way. You also need to respect the guidelines given by that organization, for example Flickr wants you to give a link back to their page for each picture hardlinked in another site.

Without the explicit consent of the copyright holder, do not take images to illustrate Camerapedia from other sites, scanned magazines or even manufacturers' publicity.

To be sure that an image of a camera, etc., is not copyrighted, simply take a photograph of it yourself.

To this end we have set up a Flickr group for camerapedia. Flickr is free to join and post images to and actively encourages users to link to its images from elsewhere. We encourage you to take photos of your own camera gear and collections and post the images to this flickr group.

Within Flickr, if you click on "all sizes" you can select the image size appropriate to post on camerapedia and Flickr will provide you with the url to use. You can then add this url to the camerapedia content page.

In the Flickr guidelines page it is said that a link back to Flickr must be provided with each picture hardlinked in another site. You can insert the Flickr images in the following way:

[URL_of_the_Flickr_page_where_the_image_appears URL_of_the_Flickr_hosted_image]

This way a click on the image will directly take the reader to the corresponding Flickr page, and it will be easier to check that the use of this image in Camerapedia is allowed.

We will remove images for which ownership and/or copyright cannot be verified. Any images posted to the Flickr "camerapedia" group are considered fair game for use on Camerapedia.
