A digital SLR based on the Nikon N80/D100 body, but with Fuji electronics. It takes Nikon mount lenses, including older AI and AIS lenses (but without metering for those, unless they've had a "chip" added). It takes Compact Flash memory cards (including micro-drives) and SmartMedia cards.

This camera uses the somewhat controversial Fuji Super CCD. It has 6 million sensor sites, arranged in a diamond array rather than a rectangular grid. It is a six megapixel camera.

Lens Compatibility

This camera accepts Nikon mount lenses, including older AI and AIS lenses and the modern AF, AF-D, etc. lenses, including the new "G" lenses without aperture rings. However, it will not meter with the AI or AIS lenses unless they've been modified to include a "chip" (which provides certain lens parameters electronically to the camera).

Battery System

This camera has an unusual, even bizarre, power system. It takes 4 AA cells (lithium primary or NiMH rechargeable batteries strongly preferred over alkaline), andtwo CR123A lithium batteries. And the CR123As are sort-of optional; if they're left out, everything works except the built-in flash (but you get notably shorter life on the AAs).

If CR123As are in use, and become exhausted, the camera will sometimes lock up completely. Turning off the camera, removing the CR123As, and turning the camera back on will normally bring it back to life.
