When the Fujifilm FinePix F10 was launched it was not merely another "digicam". Fujifilm took over the lead in making highly light sensitive digital compact cameras for a while with the launch of this camera in spring 2005. Thus it was an important achievement for the Fujifilm company because the market for its film began to shrink faster than the years before. Fujifilm uses its own CCD sensor technology with octagonal pixels, the SuperCCD chips with pixels of two sizes mixed on the surface (SR type), or just pixels arranged in higher density (HR type). The making of such leading digital imaging technology gives Fujifilm the best position among the big old film makers in the market for modern popular photographic imaging where film lost its major role.

In autumn 2005 Fujifilm launched the FinePix F11. It was basically the same camera except its better display and its greater versatility, most notably the speed priority and aperture priority modes. The F11 was not officially sold in some markets, like the USA (except Hawaii).
