The Ross-Ensign Selfix Snapper was a medium format, self-erecting folding camera designed to take 6x9cm (2 ¼ x 3 ¼") on 620 film[McK 1] made by Ensign.

Description

The Selfix Snapper is a simple viewfinder camera with a cast metal body in grey crackle-finish paint[1].

The top of the camera has a small piramidal housing with a centered eye-level optical finder. There is also a small button to release the front door close to the right-hand wheel. There is no shutter release button. The lens is a simple meniscus, mounted on a 2-position - B & I - shutter. Focus distances are marked "yards-metres". Underneath the lens there is a curved plate screwed to the shutter plate with the camera model name "Ensign Snapper". The first model has the shutter release lever on the camera's left side, the next model has it on the right side; the shutter is synchronised and has a slightly different nameplate. The Selfix Snapper dimensions are 9 x 15.5 x 3.5cm (closed) or 9 x 15.5 x 13cm (opened).

Notes

  1. Although it seems that all were sold with grey paint, some cameras have been observed with either black, green or burgundy top and bottom cover. As of now it is not clear if this may be special editions (e.g. Jubilee, Silver Wedding...) or simply a variation introduced "just because".
