Edixa Electronica

The 35mm SLR Edixa Electronica of 1962 was a masterpiece of Heinz Waaske's camera constructions, patented in 1958. It had a glass-prism-based reflex viewfinder and excellent lenses were available for its bayonet on Synchro-Compur leaf shutter. When the camera was supplied with five Mallory RM-1 1.35V batteries ans a lever was pressed its built-in Metrawatt selenium meter gave the input signal for the camera's motor-driven fully automatic exposure mechanics which set aperture and shutter speed. Manual correction of the automatic settings were possible. It was revolutionary but complicated and needed these expensive miniature batteries. Soon the price had to be reduced since Asahi had presented a less complicated system for SLRs with interchangeable lenses combined with automated TTL-meter-driven exposure in 1964.
