The name Doris appeared before the war on two Japanese models taking 3×4 pictures, distributed by Fukada Shōkai, that was also distributing the Prince cameras. The maker of these models is unclear, but they are sometimes attributed to Prince Camera Works.

Between 1952 and 1955, this name appeared again on models made by the company Tōkyō Seiki: the Doris (4.5×6) folder, the Doris Six and the Dorisflex. The company itself was renamed Doris Camera.
