I am quite ignorant about the Canon SLRs, but is the difference between the FL and FD mount such to need two separate categories? I would think that the difference is of the same nature as between the Nikon F, Nikon AI and Nikon AI-S mounts, for example. I would rather have one "Canon FL/FD mount" category, or put all the FL mount cameras in the FD category. --[[User:Rebollo fr|Rebollo fr]] 07:01, 7 June 2006 (EDT)

Merged with the Canon FD mount ?

I am quite ignorant about the Canon SLRs, but is the difference between the FL and FD mount such to need two separate categories? I would think that the difference is of the same nature as between the Nikon F, Nikon AI and Nikon AI-S mounts, for example. I would rather have one "Canon FL/FD mount" category, or put all the FL mount cameras in the FD category. --Rebollo fr 07:01, 7 June 2006 (EDT)

In a word, no.
In practice it's a little more significant than the difference between F and AI, at least if we compare Canon users who know what they're doing and Nikon users who know what they're doing. (I know nothing about AI-S.) FL is not normally regarded as FD, so putting FL into FD would be strange -- and also potentially misleading. Having a single "Canon FL/FD mount" category seems unnecessary trouble (somebody would have to rewrite all those links) for an end of little or no apparent merit.
You'll be thrilled to learn that the FL mount followed, and was significantly different from, the P mount.
