The Auto-Ultrix mit Plattenrückwand (catalogue Nr.3860) manufactured by Ihagee Kamerawerk, Steenbergen & Co. in Dresden was introduced in 1931. It shares many characteristics with most of the other camera's in the Ultrix series of self-unfolding roll film cameras. However, its unique selling point was the possibility to use either 120 film or 6.5x9 cm dry plates. The back of the camera with a red window could easily be replaced with the appropriate plate holder.

- Engravings on top and back of the camera: “Ihagee” Dresden
- Lens: Jhagee-Anastigmat f:4.5 F=10.5 cm, Aperture: f/4.5 - f/32, no click stops
- Focusing: manual helical focusing by a lever behind the lens-shutter barrel, scale on the lens standard, Focus range: 1.5-15m +inf
- Shutter: Vario leaf shutter by Gauthier
- Waist-level brilliant finder on top of the lens, turning 90 degrees left for landscape pictures plus a folding optical sports finder, on the left side of the camera
- Spirit level next to brilliant finder
- Bellows: self erecting with the lens standard
- Back cover hinged
- Two 3/8 inch 16 UNC threaded tripod connectors
- Metal body covered with leatherette, weight 627g
