Alpa

Alpa is the name of successive generations of 35mm SLRs made by the Swiss maker Pignons.
The original design was called the Bolca Reflex and had been made by Jacques Bogopolsky, who was already the father of the Bolex movie camera (see Bolsey). The rights were bought by Pignons in 1942, and they put it the Alpa name.
They were very expensive hand-made cameras, with many variants that could be made on special order. The last one was built around the beginning of the 1980s.
At the end of the 1990s, the Alpa name has been revived for a very high-end large format camera with a modular design to adapt wide-angle lenses.
