Thanks for continuing to add links to your manuals! If you'd care to write a few words on your user page with a link to your site, I think it would help a some wiki editors make the connection, "oh THAT Mbutkus." ;-) --Vox 08:09, 3 December 2011 (PST)

Great, Mike--I've moved what you wrote to your user page and made the link "live." Feel free to add anything else there (including special links, photos, etc.) --Vox 15:04, 3 December 2011 (PST)

Mike - Thanks for adding a lot more info and links. I've made a few edits to some pages just to keep them in the same general style as our other Wiki pages (like headings not all in caps.) Geoff H (talk) 19:06, 1 July 2017 (CDT)

Starting new page for Zeiss Ikon camera

Have manual for Zeiss Ikon Lloyd-camera. Want to start a new page. I added it the Zeiss Ikon list, how do I make a blank page ?

Hello Mike, best is to first check if the name is already in use by a search. For instance search results for Lloyd : http://camera-wiki.org/index.php?search=LLoyd&title=Special%3ASearch&go=Go

You will see that "LLoyd" is already present on the pages about Hüttig, ICA and Zeiss Ikon. So maybe the Lloyd was already made before the merger to Zeiss Ikon or they are 3 different cameras. Now you can edit one of these pages and put the name Lloyd between double brackets like this Lloyd. The name then becomes a page link and is shown in red. Now when you click on that red page link a creation page will open which you can edit and save. The page name will be blue when it exists. When the Lloyds of those companies are different cameras then it is better to start the page name with the company name like e.g. this Hüttig LLoyd.

Many things about the Camera-wiki are explained here : http://camera-wiki.org/wiki/Help:FAQ

If you have any more questions then please send a mail to one of us administrators and we gladly will help you out.

Happy editing

Petri Color Corrected Super page

Someone added to the NOTES page two links... I was going to move them to LINKS, where they should be. But when I edit NOTES.. nothing shows up ?

Footnotes, or "references" in MediaWiki jargon, use a different syntax where the entire text of the footnote is typed (between "ref" tags) inline in the text at the place where you want the superscript note number to appear in the rendered page. (The rationale for this is to keep note numbers in ascending order even if whole blocks of text get swapped around.)
Usually the purpose of a footnote is to say "someone might question what I'm saying here, so here's proof"; and in the examples on that Color Corrected Super page that seems to be appropriate. You could go ahead and duplicate those OrphanCameras links under the "Links" subheading if you like though. --Vox (talk) 15:57, 11 May 2021 (UTC)

dead sites

ONE: What should someone do if they try a link and it's dead ? I added two to the Konica Autoreflex. I put (not woking 1-2022) at the end. I am finding a lot of sites disappearing. OrphanCameras.com is paid up to 2025 for now and my son would take over if something would ever happen as he knows where all the passwords are.

TWO: The site needs to be https: My two sites hosting Co. do it for free included in my yearly fee. Google really does not like a non HTTPS site. Sometimes you have to jump through hoops to get the page to open. People won't like that, getting a warning that a page can be dangerous.

THREE: Domain registration is due this Jan 31 !

I don't know about anyone else but when I find dead sites I try to get the waybackmachine (web.archive.org) version of the latest page instead. And yes sites vanish easily Titrisol (talk) 16:41, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

At this point it's really steevithak alone who looks into hosting and other back-end issues. If you use Flickr maybe add a comment to this discussion thread or start another.
As I've often observed, around here "I need to talk to whoever's in charge" won't accomplish much. The wiki today is pretty much a headless operation.--Vox (talk) 14:58, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

Getting camera-wiki secure site

With most browsers very hesitent going to a non-secure website. How can we get this site secure  ? I did both my hosting sites for free (part of the plan) and only had to do a few clicks. Chrome makes you jump through hoops. Wondering how many first time users just go some place else.

There seems to be no sitemap.xml here. I have a program that will do it, but need someone to put it on the root directory. I can do it every month to keep it updated.
