Welcome to Camera-Wiki.org!

Thanks for creating an account here on Camera-Wiki.org! We appreciate your willingness to help us create the most comprehensive camera and photography encyclopedia on the web. Camera-Wiki.org is a big website, so we'd like to offer a few quick pointers to help get you started.

You also have a profile page that you can edit to tell us more about yourself if you'd like. It's purely optional but it's always nice to get to know another camera lover.

This website uses software called Mediawiki that's also used by WikiPedia. If you already know how to use and edit WikiPedia, you'll feel right at home here. If not, we have special page where you can learn to edit, called the Sandbox. It's a place where you try things out and experiment with no worries of breaking anything.

Hello! Let me add my human welcome to Botscura's robot one! Thanks for your edits so far: it's good to see new editors joining CW!

One little thing - I see you put an email link on your user page. Did you see there's an 'Email this user' link in the left-hand side-bar of anyone's User page and User-Talk page, which is visible to anybody who's logged in. So registered CW users can already email you without having to have your email address visible to the whole world, if you prefer. It's up to you, of course.

Once more, welcome! Cheers! --Dustin McAmera (talk) 06:52, 11 November 2013 (PST)

Hello !

Thanks for your message ! I wes feeling like I was the only one around ;-) I hadn't seen there was an email link on the left panel. I removed my email from the user page itself. Do you know homw many contributors there are actually on camera-wiki.org ?

People come and go a bit: it is quiet now. I haven't been very active myself recently. I joined in 2011, about when the split from Camerapedia happened, and I very soon realised I'd written everything I knew about cameras, and since then I can only write something new when I learn something new! When I have the time, I look through the catalogues of the Westlicht auctions, which happen twice a year, and often find a camera that we don't yet have anything about. That tends to be old stuff though, and I know most people come to CW to look up more recent cameras.

That side-bar is full of interesting pages: you can see what's going on in the wiki in the Recent Changes page; that's where I usually go first, to see who's active and what they're doing. You can see various lists in the Special Pages. In the User list, there seem to be something like 600 names, but I know few of those are meaningful; a lot are user names from old Camerapedia, which were left in place in case people wanted them. We also get a few new user names created most weeks, but not many of those people ever do anything here. There's also a list of Active users, which shows who's done any editing in the last 30 days; that stands at 22 right now; I'm glad to see one of those is rebollo_fr, one of the founding members of the project. Also U. kulick, another long-standing editor, has been doing a lot in the last couple of weeks. Geoff H and Tkmedia are also active. I also like to look at the list of Popular pages now and then; it's interesting to see which pages people actually look at!
