I would welcome edits from anyone who has more information about the 44LM, or the "Auto 44." I can find no information about the Auto 44, aside from its listing in McKeown's. I suspect it may be a name variant of the 44 or 44LM sold in a particular market.-- Voxphoto 21:17, 29 October 2007 (EDT)

Sugiyama references this in his book, The Collector's Guide to Japanese Cameras, as # 2305 and attributes a photo of the camera to Yashica. It is the only photo of this model that I have ever seen. It appears to be similar to the Yashica 44LM, but with crank film advance in place of the knob, and with black enamel and leatherette. The cover over the meter cell is slightly different than the 44LM, and the meter housing has "Auto 44" (Written with "Auto" on the top, a line and "44" on the bottom) in place of "LM". He lists a date of 1959, and rarity of two stars and value of two stars. I have to believe that this was never produced and was a photo of a prototype that was sent to Sugiyama. --Wdance 18:37, 1 November 2007 (EDT)

Timed Exposures

I've hunted and hunted but haven't been able to find out if a 44A can accept a regular shutter release cable or not. I know it won't screw into the shutter button like normally, but maybe they put it somewhere else? I have other cameras where it's not on the shutter release button, so that's why I wondered. Does anybody know the answer to this? I'd like to be able to take long exposures at night, and standing there holding the shutter in for that long just isn't practical, and the pictures would have more chance to be blurred. Did Yashica make a special shutter release cable for this camera? HaarFager (talk) 03:29, 27 September 2021 (UTC)

Oh hey, I've learned something I didn't know about my own camera. Yes, apparently the knurled ring around the shutter button unscrews; and there is a type of cable release which fits the male threads which this exposes. I believe early Nikons used a similar cable release (not sure if thread is the same). It's mentioned on page 9 of the 44A manual.--Vox (talk) 17:45, 27 September 2021 (UTC)

Discussion Pages

I just noticed this warning at the top of the page: "Discussion pages are for discussing improvements to the article itself, not for discussions about the subject of the article."

Well, I just asked a question about the camera, but it would be good to know the answer and then be able to add it into the article. So, would that be a discussion of the subject of the article or for improvements to the article itself? I would say the latter, in the way I used it. HaarFager (talk) 03:32, 27 September 2021 (UTC)

I think that caution is just so no one fills the discussion pages with "here's why I love my Yashica" or "where can I buy 127 film?" chit-chat. If you succeed in learning what cable-release thread dimensions will fit the 44's, that's appropriate "improvement to the article" talk.--Vox (talk) 17:45, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
