Stylized red 'II'
Starting perhaps around 1980, RMC Tokina lenses have a stylized red script 'II' printed on the front bezel. This designation continued through the 1980s with other non-RMC lines such as SZ-X and AT-X. Does anyone know what it means? My best guess is that it was supposed to indicate updated coatings. The mark was seemingly dropped with newer lines like AT-X Pro. Balazer (talk) 20:48, 26 September 2018 (CDT)
AT-X
At least one AT-X model, the AT-X 352 35-200mm, was offered in SD and non-SD versions. Confusingly, both have the same model number (352) printed on the box. The lenses have obvious physical differences. Balazer (talk) 20:48, 26 September 2018 (CDT)
SZ-X
Some of the Tokina SZ-X lenses starting around 1988 were not made by Tokina. Several of them I know to be made by Kobori, and I marked them as such. Some other models that were sold in the 1990s, like the SZ-X 845 and the SZ-X 357, I'm pretty sure were also not made by Tokina, but I don't know who made them. Lenses made for other brands
The 45-150mm f/3.5 is one lens made by Tokina that I've only ever seen under different brands such as Asanuma and Soligor. That's odd, as most Tokina-made Vivitars, Asanumas, and Soligors from the 1970s were also sold as RMC Tokinas.
