It was said to be the first British 35mm camera to go on sale.

Where does this come from?

Good question. Looking at the page history, that sentence is in the first version, by AWCam. There were then only a couple of links, and neither of them makes the claim. Neither does McKeown say it (though, being an American, maybe Mr McKeown is not too excited about the first British one of anything).
The photomemorabilia site quotes from a BJA review of the camera, including the sentence The 'Advocate' is a landmark in British camera construction. I wonder if AWCam inferred from that that it was the first British 35mm camera.
In any case, I dislike the form It was said to be ; at Wikipedia it would get that little blue By whom? tag. Maybe we should have that here! For now, I'm going to change the sentence to 'It was the first British-made 35mm camera to be sold', and then I'll comment-out that sentence, until I find some source for it. I think the BJP/BJA is the most likely bet, but it might take some finding.
Thanks for the heads-up! --Dustin McAmera (talk) 15:02, 30 November 2015 (CST)
