Book

The article had what looked like advertising for a book. A less spammy plug for the book read

Holliman, Andrew J. Faces, People and Places - The Cameras of Ilford Ltd. - 1899 to 2005 - Hardback, 288 pages, 270 images, 76 Ilford camera marques, 152 Ilford camera models. Full details and ordering page at: http://www.electricstrings.com/ilford.htm ISBN 0-9545342-1-2
The result of over 20 years research including significant details about the Ilford Witness and the Ilford Advocate never previously published. Details about the companies and personalities involved with Ilford from interviews with former employees.

I've just now removed this from the page of English-language sources as nothing linked to it. -- Hoary 11:14, 12 December 2006 (EST)

I think it's OK to put the book in a bibliography section, at least in this Ilford page. After all, you and I have added titles of Japanese magazines that we have never read, just for reference in case one finds them one day. Obviously it is the author who inserted it and this is a sort of spam, but it is not out of place here. We are tolerating silly "photo-bloggers using..." auto-promotion, as well as insertion of links to one's own webpage (like "Orphan Cameras" or some French collections). This one looks useful, at least as much as my other examples. --Rebollo fr 13:10, 12 December 2006 (EST)
You're right on all counts. I first noticed the book in the sources page, and wondered what might point to or even mention it. A search revealed that only this article did. This article had what seemed a brazen advertisement for the book; it was what pissed me off to the point where I deleted it.
If the book is what it's claimed to be, it seems informative and interesting indeed. Certainly it deserves a mention in this article, and I've so edited the page. Perhaps its author might contribute more Ilford-related (or other) stuff to CP. -- Hoary 20:50, 12 December 2006 (EST)
