Notes on the currency of information and stock

Paris–Other

very nice selection of collectible cameras, friendly owner (see lots of Nikon F, Contarex, Brooks Veriwide, Sonne Rangefinder, Rolleiflex, various brass and woos, several old film cameras, some very large Gitzo tripods). Definitely worth the trip! --Heritagefutures 05:07, 27 September 2011 (PDT)
A veritable Goblin's Cave of photographica. Utterly impossible to browse as it is literally impossible to get into the door ... the shop is stuffed to the ceiling with camera items which are also heaped on what once was a floor. Best to use the website to assess the stock and the go and also ask the owner.--Heritagefutures 07:25, 20 September 2011 (PDT)
and yes, the French word 'Gobelins' means 'tapestries' and not 'Goblins'...--Heritagefutures 07:30, 20 September 2011 (PDT)
Large number of sellers of bric-a-brac etc. Many have cameras, mainly box cameras, folders and a few SLRs. Several film cameras and projectors. Seemingly a standard price for 6x9 folder or plate camera: €45 (negotiable). One specialised cameras seller (Atelier Nostalgie Claude Rebours, Saturdays only at market, has own shop-see list).--Heritagefutures 04:20, 17 September 2011 (PDT)
See this photoset for images of cameras offered at the fleamarket (taken today 17 Sep 2011)--Heritagefutures 11:22, 17 September 2011 (PDT)
See this photoset for images of cameras offered at the fleamarket (taken today 24 Sep 2011)--Heritagefutures 13:40, 24 September 2011 (PDT)
Huge and bewildering fleamarket area, two specilialised camera sellers. High prices, on par with Blvd Beaumarchais, but somewhat negotiable. Other stalls may have the occasional camera. Stalls open by 9:30-10am.--Heritagefutures 23:33, 18 September 2011 (PDT)

very small holdings

  • Photo Ciné Vidéo Alexandre, 6 Rue Monge, 75005 Paris. (map)
Small shop, no secondhand section of any note (only one Point-and-Shoot) (Sep 2011). IMHO not worth a specific trip unless in the direct neighbourhood. Shop removed from main listing as it holds next to no secondhand/collectible stock.--Heritagefutures 11:06, 21 September 2011 (PDT)
Dealer or digital cameras, has a small offering of secondhand Nikon and Canon Digital units, one F3 with motor drive seen. IMHO not worth a specific trip unless in the direct neighbourhood--Heritagefutures 11:06, 21 September 2011 (PDT)
  • Optique Michaud SA, 42 Avenue Wagram, 75008 Paris, France
Shop closing down, very limited stock left. Mainly filters and the like, as well as some Nikon gear--Heritagefutures 08:56, 22 September 2011 (PDT)
Very small selection of second-hand gear. Staff quite unfriendly, bordering on rude. IMHO not worth a specific trip unless one happens to literally walk past the shop.--Heritagefutures 09:00, 22 September 2011 (PDT)
Small selection of second hand and collectible gear (Nikon, Nikon S [chrome and black], Rolleiflex, Contax), pricey. Friendly staff.--Heritagefutures 09:00, 22 September 2011 (PDT)
  • Histoire d'une photo, 21 Boulevard du Temple, 75003 Paris (map)
Small shop front, limited selection of second-hand gear, mainly SLRs (various brands), no digital units seen (!). Worth a passing visit--Heritagefutures 08:12, 26 September 2011 (PDT)

Discussion of page content

Freestyle and Unique Photo SuperStore

Should the entry on FREESTYLE have been added? This page is about shops etc that sell used and SECONDHAND cameras to aid the collector...AFAIK Freestyle sells only new stuff.--Heritagefutures 23:03, 14 September 2011 (PDT)

Same applies to the entry on Unique Photo SuperStore ... --Heritagefutures 23:05, 14 September 2011 (PDT)

Likely just a misunderstanding of the purpose of this listing. Perhaps there should be a page move to a more descriptive title?--Vox 07:27, 15 September 2011 (PDT)
Maybe add a more explanatory sentence in the intor to the page...will draft one...--Heritagefutures 08:20, 15 September 2011 (PDT)
That's a good idea, I added three businesses in Texas, two that actually sell used cameras but also one that specializes in film processing of less common formats. My reasoning was that camera collectors are likely to need some place to process the film they shoot but if we're listing only used equipment vendors, maybe I should not have listed that one.
Steevithak 08:33, 15 September 2011 (PDT)
Maybe add a page for just that, eg rare film sales and processing...but the problem will be to keep that maintained.. and uptodate--Heritagefutures 08:37, 15 September 2011 (PDT)
currency of secondhand shops will be bad enough For ex I just went to look up Photo Ciné Vidéo Alexandre, 6 Rue Monge, 75005 Paris. which had been on the list before I added the other Paris stores..and Photo Ciné Vidéo Alexandre is an utter wash-out...one Point and Shoot was their entire secondhand section...so moved it to the above section...--Heritagefutures 08:40, 15 September 2011 (PDT)
