Please help. I have about 150 photos here, and many of them no longer display correctly on their pages (such as this one). I don't know how to correct the links. Thanks --John Kratz (talk) 17:20, 3 September 2020 (UTC)

I got the most recent 'image=' URL from Flickr, and that works on my computer now. Mostly the old URLs still work. Maybe this is a temporary problem with a Flickr server, but if it not temporary, we can go through your whole image-by category and update them all. How long have you been aware of a problem? Some of them are ok: Action Man wasn't AWOL (phew!): but found another one missing at Ansco. I'll keep on looking.
It's been this way for quite a while now. It would be one thing if the issue was just adding an S to http for example, but it seems as though the whole address has changed. If I could figure out how to get the correct URL from flickr, I would do it myself. I see you have fixed a few already, which I really appreciate! There are so many though, so I feel bad about the idea of someone else going through all those pages.--John Kratz (talk) 18:51, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
How to get the URL from Flickr varies:
Some users allow 'sharing' via the curly-arrow symbol below-right of the picture. That opens a new little window, where you choose what size you want (don't always get that right first time), and then copy the code in the box. That code includes the URL for the image ('image=' in the Flickr-image stuff on the wiki page), the one for the Flickr page ('image_source='), and some extra bits that mostly you don't need.
If the user doesn't allow 'sharing' (your account doesn't) you have to get the 'image=' URL by a different route. The downward-arrow symbol, also below-right of the picture, is for downloading the image, but includes the option 'view all sizes'. Again, there the first step is to choose a size. Then I do (right mouse-click) 'View page info' (this is in Firefox; I guess other browsers have something similar). That opens its own window; within that, I go to the 'Media' tab, and that shows a list of the URLS for all the picture elements on that Flickr downloading page, and a preview box. Most of the picture elements listed are just small arrows, the Twitter logo, etc., but scroll down and you get to the picture in the end. Then you can copy its URL. The image_source URL is just the original Flickr page URL.
Eventually, I guess we are going to be forced to update all the image URLs in the wiki. We can't expect Flickr to continue to support all the old formats for ever. Don't look forward to that happening; but often if I start a long bit of tedious editing with no creative aspect, I trip over something interesting to do while I'm at it.
