The camera features a 3.1 mega pixel 1/1.8" CCD sensor. The lens is a 7.2 to 50.8mm (35 to 250mm equivalent); with an aperture of f/2.8 to 3.5. The filter thread is 49 mm. The preview display is a 112,000 pixel 1.8" LCD screen. The viewfinder is a EVF type with 71,000 pixel Ferroelectric LCD. The EVF has the capability to swing upwards for waist level type viewing. The viewing mode will automatically switch between the 1.8" LCD screen to the EVF when using the eyepiece. It will switch back to the large LCD when not using the EVF.
The shutter speed is 4s to 1/2000s + bulb. with up to 30s. In normal mode that camera can focus from 50cm to inf., for closer focus enable the macro mode to get 25 to 60cm. For exposure it features a 256 segment metering; center-weighted average or spot metering. Exposure compensation from -2 to +2EV in 1/3 steps. The camera top contains a built-in pop-up flash with a range of approx. 0.5 to 3.8m at 7.2mm wide and 0.5 to 3m at 50.8mm. For media storage the DiMAGE uses CompactFlash cards. Originally included is a 16 MB CompactFlash card as well as a lens hood. It is powered by 4x AA batteries and weighs 603g.
