The Minolta AF Zoom 28-80mm 1:3.5(22)-5.6 D was a moderately priced "standard zoom" for the last series of Minolta's Dynax autofocus system SLR cameras. The "D" marked it as usable with advanced TTL flash control capabilities (ADI) of cameras like the Minolta Dynax 5. A lens hood was delivered with the lens, attachable thru the accessory bayonet around the 55mm filter thread. Behind that bayonet is the focusing ring which can be used manually when the camera is switched to "MF" mode. Further control is the focal-length setting ring around the lens barrel. The lens is remarkable since it got moderately good test results even by independent test institutions despite of the fact that it was just a "budget" lens with plastic barrel. It weighs just 186 g. A test institute measured it as 1:3.4-5.7/29-78mm lens with minimal subject distance 35cm. It has 8 elements in 7 groups. Minimal aperture is 22-38, the angle of view 75-30 degrees. The most common criticism by users is about sharpness with aperture wider than f8.
