Lavec Industrial Corporation of Taipei, Taiwan is the maker of several cheap viewfinder cameras for 35mm film. These include at least some of the Time Magazine Camera; some of these have LAVEC Optical Glass Lens on the lens-surround. Some cameras branded Biauma also have a similar branding on the lens, and are probably made by Lavec. The status of Biauma is not clear; Biauma may be only a client who had the cameras made as giveaways, like Time.
Some cameras have been produced in Lavec's own name:

  • LT-002: A plastic-bodied, fixed-focus viewfinder camera with a false pentaprism. Very similar to the Time Magazine camera.
  • LT-006: Only cosmetic differences from the LT-002; differently moulded hand-grip, etc.
  • L-3: Essentially similar camera, without the false pentaprism, but with silver paint to give metal-effect 'top housing' and 'base plate'. Very similar to the Biauma L-B, with slight cosmetic differences.

Lavec appears still to be active, as of November 2022, apparently offering 'general furniture' and cameras. There cannot be great demand now for such cheap cameras for film.
