IEEE 1394 - under trade names such as Firewire, iLink - is a method of connecting peripherals. Unlike USB it does not require a host master (usually a computer) for control; as it is a DMA peer based system it does not require a CPU to maintain transfer operations.
This interface was common on some early DSLR cameras, such as the Nikon D1, Canon EOS D2000 and Kodak DCS 330.
