Random thoughts

A few random thoughts:

I really don't like mandatory.

Something I would like to see more in articles is references to how the cameras were used. Historically-important events they were used to document, well-known photographers who used a particular camera, or well-known photos taken with it. This is much harder to find out than the specifications, and more in need of supporting evidence, but worthwhile when it's there.

Is the Webcite thing not sailing close to the wind with copyright? It seems to be causing a copy to be kept of the source material, regardless of the wishes of the owner. --Dustin McAmera 07:34, 25 March 2011 (PDT)

I don't like "mandatory" either. I've since reworded. (The meaning is little changed, but the connotations are gone.)
I agree with you about use. I was trying to get at that in one of my additions within this set of edits, but couldn't unmuddle it. I too thought it worth pointing out that (for example) in the 1980s a several photographers reveled in color film with the Plaubel Makina (and, often, ring flash), but I hoped not to encourage anyone to add dreary lists of just which photographer of calendars and soccer had claimed to use which SLR in corporate publicity. Perhaps you'd like to tinker with the content.
Yes, WebCite surprises me too. On questions of copyright, see this. -- Zuleika 07:57, 25 March 2011 (PDT)

sample pictures

I'd be happy to see even stronger language discouraging sample images. It is not news that a 60-year-old camera can still make a photograph. A sample image is justified if it shows something distinct and unusual about a particular image format, technique, or lens effect. Otherwise, the slippery slope to pure vanity posting is too steep. --Vox 14:49, 25 March 2011 (PDT)

Yes, I agree. If nobody has edited it in the meantime, then a few hours from now I'll go in and edit it myself in the direction that you suggest. Zuleika 17:25, 25 March 2011 (PDT)
