Glossary Terms

CSC, for "Compact System Camera" describes the class of digital cameras offering interchangeable lenses (and typically, other accessories), but which in contrast to DSLRs use entirely electronic viewing, either via through LCD monitor or electronic viewfinder (EVF) or both, rather than reflex finder or rangefinder finder. After some uncertainty how to name this class of camera, by 2012 CSC emerged as the term most manufacturers preferred to use. Other common abbreviations refer to CSCs with electronic viewfinder:

  • EVIL = electronic viewfinder / interchangeable lens
  • MILC = mirrorless interchangeable lens camera
  • MSC = mirrorless system camera

The camera-wiki.org category Japanese digital system cameras includes many of these models, the non-Japanese few is listed in digital system cameras.
