The Bronica S is a 6×6 format focal plane SLR introduced by Bronica in 1961. A simplified version without removable back was released called Bronica C. An improved model called Bronica S2 was released in 1964.
It is the first major revision of Bronicas 6×6 camera system. It has finders and backs that are not compatible with the previous Bronica Z / D models. There were many features no longer on the Bronica S that were available on the previous Bronica cameras. Changes include the removal of the 2 to 10 sec and 1/1250 shutter speeds, along with self-timer, multiple exposure and focus lock.
Improvements include an even more fool proof dark slide system. The camera will not function properly with a dark slide inserted nor can the back be removed without a dark slide. During use; if dark slide is still inserted, the camera actually pushes the dark slide half out to remind you to remove it. Dual cable releases are available, one on the shutter button, the other on the bottom base of the camera. A mirror lock down function is also present with the switch below shutter release.
The camera has multiple exposure prevention, but you can make it expose twice on the same frame by
- exposing a frame
- inserting the dark slide, remove film back
- cock the shutter, insert film back, remove dark slide
The Zenzanon 300mm f/4.5 will not mount as it uses the larger bayonet mount.
