Annie Leibovitz (born October 2nd 1947 in West Port, Connecticut) is a renowned American photographer and one of the best known portrait photographers of modern times. She was named chief photographer for the music magazine Rolling Stone in 1973 after starting work there as a staff photographer. In 1983 she also worked for Vanity Fair. In the same year the first exhibition of her photographs took place, and her first book was published. In the following year she was named "Photographer of the Year" by the American Society of Magazine Photographers. In 1990 she founded her studio in New York City.
