Description

The Vivitar 200mm f/3.5 T-4 mount lens was marketed by Ponder and Best (Vivitar) in the late 1960s. It was part of a family of T-4 mount lenses. The T-4 mount could be adapted to most commonly used camera mounts of the era. A lens review in the February/March issues of Camera 35 magazine indicates that best resolution was achieved f/11 and praised the lens for having high contrast. The review also notes the similarity to the Soligor T-4 lenses. It is believed the both the Vivitar and Soligor T-4 lenses were designed by Tokina with slight customizations made to the specifications of each company.

Obviously the growing number of different systems providing interchangeable automatic lenses proves the popularity and success of the basic concept. One of the new entries is The Vivitar T-4 system that was designed in conjunction with Soligor. Not only are the mount adapters alike, but the lenses themselves appear very similar. The Vivitars have more black finish and hardly any chrome trip to speak of.[1]

Resolution Results from Camera 35 Review:

Aperture Center Edges
f/3.5 48 34
f/5.6 48 40
f/8 48 40
f/11 56 48
f/16 48 40
f/22 40 34
