Welcome to Camera-Wiki.org!

Thanks for creating an account here on Camera-Wiki.org! We appreciate your willingness to help us create the most comprehensive camera and photography encyclopedia on the web. Camera-Wiki.org is a big website, so we'd like to offer a few quick pointers to help get you started.

You also have a profile page that you can edit to tell us more about yourself if you'd like. It's purely optional but it's always nice to get to know another camera lover.

This website uses software called Mediawiki that's also used by WikiPedia. If you already know how to use and edit WikiPedia, you'll feel right at home here. If not, we have special page where you can learn to edit, called the Sandbox. It's a place where you try things out and experiment with no worries of breaking anything.

Hello!

Thanks for welcoming me.

You might have read my user page to notice that I am not a spambot!

I'll add my human welcome to Botscura's bot-welcome! Hi, and welcome! --Dustin McAmera (talk) 05:21, 15 October 2012 (PDT)
Hi again! I see you've been making some edits; thanks for those! When you make an edit, it helps if you write a summary of what you did (in the 'Summary' box at the bottom of the editing panel); something like 'New stub', 'Added more details about lenses', or 'Added a picture'. The summaries appear in the Special:RecentChanges page and help everyone see what work is going on (only at the moment they don't because nobody is giving edit summaries)! Cheers! --Dustin McAmera (talk) 16:30, 16 October 2012 (PDT)

Okay thanks! I did not know that!! I'll keep it in mind for my next additions!

You would put the cp88 on this page. Polaroid rigid pack film consumer models. it's on the polaroid page under packfilm then rigid. --Tkmedia (talk) 07:44, 17 October 2012 (PDT)

I don't know Polaroids even well enough to judge how good our coverage is, I'm afraid; very similar cameras seem to exist under more than one name. Good luck with improving it! Cheers! --Dustin McAmera (talk) 10:58, 17 October 2012 (PDT)

Hi again! I changed one of your recent pages. I moved it from '135mm f/2.8' to Vivitar 135mm f/2.8; I think we need to be specific, because many manufacturers have made a lens of this length/aperture. Also, looking at 135mm f/2.8 Revuenon-Special I see you've written in the first person (I'd like to know... ), and addressed the reader directly (If you happen to own one...). We don't generally do either of these in articles (Talk pages are different). The articles should read like an encyclopaedia page. Cheers! --Dustin McAmera (talk) 04:30, 4 November 2012 (PST)

Indeed you're right! I'll change it! (if you didn't already) Regards!

Haking Compact-SC

Hi as per flickr my apols I should have said that this camera was already on camera-wiki in the Halina Compact 35 guise. I've updated that page with your info. Didn't know if you wanted to re-direct the page you made to save confusion as the halina version has been on the go since 2011 and been re-edited

Thanks & mail group

Hi, I'm Vox —one of the folks who three years ago helped launch this non-commercial fork of Camerapedia. I notice you've been making a lot of useful wiki edits recently, and that's great!

You probably already know about the wiki's Flickr discussion area …but there is also a small Google Groups mailing list where active wiki editors can talk amongst themselves about planning, policy, etc. I would warmly like to invite you to join this group (which has very little traffic, until a specific issue comes up).

The future of camera-wiki.org is facing a bit of a crisis right now. In 2011, preserving the independence of Camerapedia was an emergency situation and Steevithak and I took large roles during that crisis. But neither of wanted to be "in charge," and in the past year we've both moved on to other interests. The wiki can really use some help right now in maintaining a healthy future, and the Google group might be a good place to discuss future options. The most urgent need is finding a more reliable hosting situation, and publicizing the need for ongoing donations to pay those costs.

It's also possible within the MediaWiki software to give certain editors more administrative powers. If that is a responsibility you might like to take on, please feel free to mention it.

All best from Ann Arbor, USA
