Welcome to Camera-wiki.org

I hope you enjoy using this encyclopedia and that you want to stay and contribute. As a first step, you may wish to look at the list of help pages.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask at Community discussions. Or you can ask on the "Talk" page of the relevant article (click on the tab in the article that's marked "Discussion"). Or again you can ask me on my talk page. (For any of these, please write the message at the bottom of the page.)

Tips:

  • The content of articles is flexible, and unsigned. If you can improve something, please do so, but don't sign any addition or change.
  • The content of talk pages is fixed (until it's archived), and signed. If you don't like somebody's comment, feel free to respond to it, but don't alter it. Please sign any message that you add there with four tildes (~~~~); doing so will automatically insert your "signature" (your username and a date stamp).
  • Please click "Show preview" and check that all seems well before clicking "Save page".
  • If you'd like to experiment with markup, please do so in the Sandbox.
  • Mistakes can be fixed. However, we have to be strict about one matter: copyright. If you're not entirely sure that some material can be added, please don't add it.

I'm looking forward to seeing material added by you. Zuleika 00:57, 30 March 2011 (PDT)

Welcome to camera-wiki.org, Past reflections. You raise some good points at Talk:C-mount, and I've replied to these there. But briefly, please go ahead and edit the article! Zuleika 08:51, 29 March 2011 (PDT)

Well done already! Do please linger, and add and improve. One little point: when you add a comment to a talk page, please "sign" it, with four consecutive taps on the "~" key: "~~~~" adds your username and the time. Thanks. Zuleika 17:13, 29 March 2011 (PDT)

I will try to add to it from time to time. The collection includes material from pre-Daguerreian to subminis to period studio furnishings, but my primary focus is on early amateur cine at the moment, so for fine detail, am probably most current in that area. I've just been cutting and pasting the signature someone else added, but good to know how to do that now. Past reflections 17:40, 29 March 2011 (PDT)

On the row of tildes: oh dear, we really do need a "welcome" template that tells people this kind of thing. Perhaps I'll get around to it some time. (If only there were nine days in the week!) Yes, do please add information. I have hazy memories of the father of a childhood friend poohpoohing the 8mm of the time ("standard 8mm"?) and instead using 9.5 mm, but really I know no more about cine than I know about brain surgery or crocheting. Yes, a bit of new user information would be helpful. If there is some kind of format template, that also would be useful. I would hazard a guess from the 8mm vs. 9.5mm memory that you grew up in Europe. 9.5mm was the format of choice there; actually introduced a bit before Kodak offered 16mm (You might have heard the same thing in favor of 16mm in the US when 8mm was introduced). The image sizes were very nearly the same, but the Pathe format placed sprocket holes between the frames, while 8mm (being split 16) placed them along the edge of the film. 9.5 was available in the US, but it saw its greatest popularity in Europe. Yes, I'm European. And I whipped up a welcome template. Above, it's used for the first time anywhere. Thank you for the nudge! Zuleika 00:57, 30 March 2011 (PDT)

That looks great! Thanks.
