Welcome to Camera-Wiki.org!

Thanks for creating an account here on Camera-Wiki.org! We appreciate your willingness to help us create the most comprehensive camera and photography encyclopedia on the web. Camera-Wiki.org is a big website, so we'd like to offer a few quick pointers to help get you started.

You also have a profile page that you can edit to tell us more about yourself if you'd like. It's purely optional but it's always nice to get to know another camera lover.

This website uses software called Mediawiki that's also used by WikiPedia. If you already know how to use and edit WikiPedia, you'll feel right at home here. If not, we have special page where you can learn to edit, called the Sandbox. It's a place where you try things out and experiment with no worries of breaking anything.

Welcome, and thanks for your contributions so far! --Dustin McAmera (talk) 13:38, 5 December 2012 (PST)

Thank you. I am a retired professional photographer in Australia who has been collecting cameras since 1980. I have written articles for 'Viewfinder' (LHSA) and 'Back Focus' (Australian Photographic Collectors Society) and have now made a few of these available to help other collectors with their research.

Steinheil Casca... Looks like that person has a few photos no longer available. So if you want to insert you photos you should proceed.

While some of them I think are better, but what with all the photo enlargements? Are they too small? Some photos with src camera_m.jpg can be converted to camera_n.jpg for slightly larger photos, without being much bigger as compared to renaming to photo.jpg. Depending on screen size usage, platform, browser some of the adjustments has some collision issues. I can not think of particular pages but have seen some issues. --Tkmedia (talk) 19:21, 10 November 2013 (PST) Yes, many were a bit small, but I take your point about platform & browsers; please revert any that you see that are incorrect, thanks. Mailing List

Hi Geoff!

I have been leaving a message on the talk pages of some of the other active wiki editors, inviting them to join a Google Groups mailing list to discuss the future sustainability of the wiki. It occurs to me that you have been following editing activity much more closely than I; and so perhaps I have missed someone who should also see this. And—you too get the same invitation to join the group of course! Here's the message:

Hi, I'm Vox —one of the folks who three years ago helped launch this non-commercial fork of Camerapedia. I notice you've been making a lot of useful wiki edits recently, and that's great!

You probably already know about the wiki's Flickr discussion area …but there is also a small Google Groups mailing list where active wiki editors can talk amongst themselves about planning, policy, etc. I would warmly like to invite you to join this group (which has very little traffic, until a specific issue comes up).

The future of camera-wiki.org is facing a bit of a crisis right now. In 2011, preserving the independence of Camerapedia was an emergency situation and Steevithak and I took large roles during that crisis. But neither of wanted to be "in charge," and in the past year we've both moved on to other interests. The wiki can really use some help right now in maintaining a healthy future, and the Google group might be a good place to discuss future options. The most urgent need is finding a more reliable hosting situation, and publicizing the need for ongoing donations to pay those costs.

It's also possible within the MediaWiki software to give certain editors more administrative powers. If that is a responsibility you might like to take on, please feel free to mention it.

All best from Ann Arbor, USA

Thanks

Hi Geoff, Thank you for fixing the picture in the Minolta-35 page! While I'm not exactly a newbie when it comes to computers, the very little I know about Wikis is quite rusted... Sorry for the inconvenience! I'll try to improve. I had no idea posting a picture from Flickr was so complicated. --Fragarach (talk) 06:26, 22 February 2016 (CST)

My Thanks As Well

What Fragarach said above. Thanks for fixing my picture display problem on the Kodak Winner page. I spent an hour and a half trying to get it right and there was just no way. I even followed the help page instructions on how to do it, and those directions didn't seem to apply for me. I did used to be simpler. Kenny HaarFager (talk) 15:40, 14 June 2016 (CDT)

copyright infringment

I was editing Praktica FX2 page and found photo-manual.com had one listed. I checked the link to find it was from my OrphanCameras.com website. You can tell from the wear and torn pages that they are identical. I wrote to the webmaster asking where he got it from. I also started checking his site for any more problems. Adobe security feature is a joke. Even Ver 10 security can be removed by a free web site. I started to write my domain name on all of my scans since 2011 or so after finding how poor the Adobe security was.

What do I do about this link to his site ?

I think they may have acted on your request as the link does not produce a result. I have deleted it. Geoff H (talk) 19:27, 20 July 2017 (CDT)
