Tōyō Kōki Seizō
History
Tōyō Kōki Seizō K.K. (東洋光機製造㈱), often cited as "Tōyō Kōki", was a Japanese company of the late 1930s and early 1940s, which made the Peacock 3×4cm cameras.[1] The company was based in Tokyo, Yodobashi.[2]
It is said that it was linked to Oriental Shashin Kōgyō, a large film maker and owner of the Peacock trademark.[3] Tōyō Kōki was merged into Oriental in 1944, becoming its optical instruments branch (光機部門), dissolved in 1945.[4]

Postwar company
A company called Tōyō Kōki (東洋光機㈱) is episodically mentioned in various sources as a camera maker in the late 1940s and in the 1950s, for the Tone, Larkflex, Elega-35 and Elegaflex.

- ↑ The full name "Tōyō Kōki Seizō K.K." is given in the address list of the "Kokusan shashinki no genjōchōsa" ("Inquiry into Japanese cameras"), and in this page at Kan's Room. Kokusan kamera no rekishi, p.339, says "Tōyō Kōki K.K." Sugiyama, items 3044 and 4060, gives "Toyo Optical Works", a translation attempt. McKeown, p.933, says "Toyo Kogaku", surely a wrong back translation, and makes a confusion with the postwar Tōyō Kōki and with Tōkō Shashin.
