Title

Does the title sound correct, or do I have to make a plural (geared lenses)? --Rebollo fr 09:53, 6 October 2007 (EDT)

"First mass-produced"?

The Ricohflex III entry includes a statement "This was the world's first mass-produced twin-lens reflex camera" which was added by User:Kyoju in April 2010. At the very least this requires more qualification or explanation—in what way were the Kodak Reflex—or the Rolleiflex, for that matter—not "mass produced"? Is this statement specific to Japan's industry alone?--Vox (talk) 21:35, 4 January 2022 (UTC)

I agree, that line is clearly incorrect. Instead of deleting it, perhaps change it to "Japan's first mass-produced......" Geoff H (talk) 23:06, 4 January 2022 (UTC)

That editor contributed quite a lot of Ricoh material and so perhaps there really is some "first" which should be noted—I wish it were clearer what was intended. Perhaps the "conveyor belt" reference further down is relevant.--Vox (talk) 00:27, 5 January 2022 (UTC)
From the Ricoh company history: "Ricoh was the first company in Japan to introduce a belt-conveyor system for manufacturing cameras, achieving a production capacity of 10,000 units/month —more than ten times the capacity of the then standard level of less than 1,000 units/month from the conventional handicraft industry. Successfully adopting this method of camera mass production, Ricoh offered the Ricohflex Model III at an affordable price, which was remarkably low for an iconic luxury item in those days." I've taken a first stab at revising the text, feel free to expand.--Vox (talk) 17:36, 5 January 2022 (UTC)
