How to ask permission

Asking permission to an individual is easy. When asking permission to a company, more care is needed because there is no room for mistakes. Once a big company like Olympus says no, it's over for at least a couple of years. So it needs to be done in a somewhat concerted way. Some points to discuss are the syntax of the mail and to whom in the company should we send it. It would be good to discuss these questions either here or in a separate Camera-wiki.org: How to ask permission.

For example, I use a variation of the following when asking permission to an eBayer:

"You have recently sold a X camera. I have written (There is) an article about the X in Camera-wiki: http://camera-wiki.org/wiki/X, that is currently lacking pictures (currently has pictures of the Y model only). Would you accept to share the picture(s) of the auction for the article? All the images published in Camerapedia are hosted in Flickr. If you have a Flickr account, you can upload the pictures there and add them to the Camerapedia pool. If you don't have a Flickr account, I can upload them to my own Flickr account, giving you due credit (either with your real name or eBay nickname, as you wish)."
