The Stecoon is a Japanese prototype of stereo camera taking pairs of 24×30mm exposures on 35mm film, made in the 1950s by an unknown company or individual. It is only known by a picture in Sugiyama.[1]

Description

The Stecoon has an all-metal body. The tubular viewfinder is attached to the middle of the top plate. The film is advanced by a knob at the right end, as seen by the photographer, and the rewind knob is at the opposite end. There is an accessory shoe on the right of the viewfinder. No exposure counter is visible, but there is a small axis on the left of the viewfinder, perhaps for that purpose. It seems that the back is removable together with the bottom plate for film loading.

The shutter is reported as of the guillotine type, giving B, 25–100 speeds.[2] Two other levers are visible on the top plate, whose function is unclear. One is near the rewind knob and is perhaps used to unlock the film rewind, or to set the shutter speeds. The other is in front of the accessory shoe and is perhaps used to cock the shutter.

There is a rectangular casing attached to the front of the camera, with a button at the top right, certainly the shutter release. There is an ASA bayonet post protruding on the opposite side. The lenses are certainly fixed-focus. There is a metal plate between the two lenses, engraved STECOON at the top, and supporting the aperture knob, with 4.5, 8 and 11 settings.
