Sony Mavica FD87

The MVC-FD87 was one of the Mavica series of digital cameras from Sony, announced at the February, 2001, PMA show alongside the MVC-FD75, MVC-FD92, and MVC-FD97[1]—the fourth generation of Mavicas using standard 3.5" computer floppy disks for image storage. However at the maximum possible image resolution of 1280×960 pixels, only approximately six images could be stored on a 1.4 MB floppy. Accordingly, a MSC-FD2M/FD2MA "dummy floppy" adapter for Memory Stick cards could be used to expand storage capacity.
The FD87 continued in the Mavica "8" series tradition of the FD81 and FD83 of offering a more modest, 3x optical zoom range, using a 6.1–18.3 mm f/2.8–2.9 lens with a 35mm equivalent range of 39–117 mm. (The prominent 6x badge includes the use of "digital zoom," which lessens resolution—a common marketing ploy in the early years of digicams.)
