The Photavit 36 is a 35mm interchangeable lens rangefinder that was made by Bolta Werk GmbH between 1956 and 1958. The Photavit 36 was one of the few 35mm cameras made by Bolta that used conventional 35mm canisters rather than the proprietary Bolta film 35mm canisters. The camera came in at least two models: the Photavit 36 which included a Prontor-SVS shutter and the Photavit 36 Automatic which included a Prontor SLK shutter. The camera included an unusual bayonet lens mount design in which the lens aperture control ring is on the camera side of the mount rather than on the lens. The lens mount is not unique to Bolta cameras however. A very similar mount is used on the Braun Super Paxette III Automatic, King Regula IIId, and possibly other cameras. The lenses are easy to identify because of a characteristic red release button on the top of the lens.

Photavit 36

The original Photavit 36 included a Prontor-SVS shutter that provide X/M flash sync, a self timer, and a wide range of speeds: 60, 30, 15, 8, 4, Bulb, 1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/15, 1/30, 1/60, 1/125, 1/300. The kit lens was an Enna Werk München Ennit 45mm f2.8 with aperture settings: f2, f2.8, f4, f5.6, f8, f11, f16, f22. Early versions of the camera had no meter but later versions included an uncoupled integrated Bewi Automat push button light meter.

Photavit 36 Automatic

The Photavi 36 Automatic included a Prontor SLK shutter and an Enna Werk München Color Ennalyt 50mm f1.9 lens. This model introduced a coupled light meter.

Photavit 36 Lenses

In addition to these Photavit lenses, the camera can presumably use other lenses made for this mounting system, such as those available for the Braun Paxette or King Regula IIId.
