Pentax introduced the Program A (or Program Plus in North America) in 1984. Like its more expensive sibling the 1983 Super A, it was matched to the Pentax-A series of K mount lenses, whose "A" lock on the aperture ring allowed the camera body to control the f/stop for programmed autoexposure.
