Pentax introduced this manual-focus 35mm SLR in 1984. It uses the KA lens mount and features programmed autoexposure and an internal film advance winder. It was given the designation A3000 in the Americas.

The shutter is a electronically controlled vertical metal focal plane type and manufactured by Seiko. It has a range of 2 to 1/1000 of a sec. Flash sync is at 1/60 of a sec. The self-timer has a delay of 12 seconds.

The meter features a TTL center-weighted open aperture system. It has a range of 1 to 8 EV (ISO 100, 50mm f1.4). It is compatible with DX code film from 25 to 1600 ISO, it can also be manually set. A crank is used for film rewinding. The camera was powered by 2 AA batteries.
