Matsushita released the Panasonic DMC-FZ7 in 2006 as an upgrade to the DMC-FZ5 from a year earlier.

It has a 1/2.5" 6MP CCD, a larger 114,000 pixel LCD (2.5"), ISO 800 and 1600 options at lower than full-resolution and now includes a manual focus option. The maximum resolution is 2816 x 2112 in 4:3, 2816 x 1880 in 3:2 and 2816 x 1584 in 16:9 ratio and can be captured in JPEG and TIFF file formats. The lens is the same Leica DC Vario-Elmarit ASPH 12x optical 6 - 72mm (36 - 432mm equiv.) f/2.8 - 3.3 with MEGA OIS image stabilization.

The FZ7 also has a "joystick" type control on the back of the camera body for adjusting specific exposure settings and manual focusing. Images are captured on SD and MMC cards. The body colour is available in either black or silver.
