Nikon Coolpix 700

The Coolpix 700 is a digital compact camera introduced by Nikon 1999.
It uses a 2 megapixel 1/2" CCD sensor. This produces photos with a maximum resolution of 1600 x 1200 pixels. Photos can be stored in TIFF format along with JPEG in normal, fine and basic compression modes. The main body of the camera is very similar to the Nikon Coolpix 950 but with a more traditional fixed lens. The shutter release button is surrounded by a control ring. This is used to power the camera, select shooting modes such as REC mode A and REC mode M, and playback mode. A mode is an automatic mode, while M mode allows more customized functions.
The lens is a 35mm equivalent f/2.6 design made with 5 elements in four groups. It is a contrast based TTL auto focus design with a focus distance of 30cm to infinity. A macro mode is also available that reduces the normal focusing distance from 9cm. A focus lock is activated by half pressing the shutter release, when doing so, a green LED lights by the finder eyelet. If unable to lock the light will flash rapidly. In M mode focus can by done manually by holding the focus mode button and pressing the zoom buttons.
A built-in flash is available with auto, off, red eye, on and slow sync modes. The optical finder has a 85% view with a magnification of 0.45x. The 1.8" color LCD display has 112,000 pixels with a 97% view. It uses CompactFlash for removable storage. Computer i/o is with a RS232C serial interface with both Windows (9pin) and Macintosh (din8) connections possible. Power is from four LR6 (AA) batteries loaded within the hand grip area.
