The Leica MP is part of the Leica M-series rangefinder 35mm film camera system released in 2003.

The horizontally travelling cloth focal plane shutter has speeds of 1 to 1/1000 plus B mode. Flash synchronisation is available at 1/50 of a sec. The viewfinder has a 0.72 magnification with auto parallax correction. It has a RF base length of 49.9mm. The bright frame lines are automatically set based on the lenses used. It is compatible with the most commonly used focal lengths of 28 / 90 mm, 35 / 135 mm and 50 / 75mm. The viewfinder eyepiece supports diopters with a range of ±3. It has a TTL meter with a range of -2 to 20 EV (ISO 100), with film speed settings of 6 to 6400 ISO. Three LED's are in the finder to aid in exposure calculation.
