The MR.640 is an autofocus camera with two focal lengths released in June, 1988 by Konica. It can be regarded as the weather-proof cousin of the Konica MR.70 LX. A year later, a shock resistant variation was released in Japan called Konica Genba Kantoku DD.

The lens switches (using a button on the back) between 40 and 60 mm (hence the model name, MR.640). In order to make the complicated moving lens mechanism weather-proof, the lens moves internally in a protruding shell with an integrated skylight filter. It is therefore not as slim as the MR.70, although that was by no means a compact construction either. The same structure also contains the AF sensors, protected by clear plastic. Like the MR.70 LX, pushing the power switch in the opposite direction cycles through the flash modes. The motor drive is quieter than on the MR.70. The camera shuts off after 15 minutes of inactivity.
