The Konica C35 is a 35mm was the first of a "new wave" of small compact cameras that swept photographic marketplace. Others of similar size and specification soon emerged of which the Olympus 35RC was the most successful. Others that also did well were the Fujica GER, Minolta Hi-Matic F, Ricoh 500 G/GX. (Later, even more sophisticated versions of these would appear - Konica Auto S3/Minolta Hi-Matic 7S11/Olympus 35RD)

It could be said that Konica was a follower of fashion and that they merely took up the baton of the earlier 60s Minoltina and Olympus Trip 35. What the Konica set, was a new small standard size and specification - without exception, they had a rangefinder and a CDS cell mounted in the lens housing and measured around 115mm wide & 80mm wide. There is much talk about all or some of them of them being manufactured by Cosina. Certainly there are great similarities.

However it was Konica who got there first - compact, light, simple to use.

There are four variants: Konica C35, Konica C35V and the later Konica C35 Automatic. The first C35 was also available in black, but I have not seen the later model - presumably because the Auto S3 was avilable solely in this colour and they were trying to differentiate between the cheaper and dearer models.
